Ratanui is currently working in conservation (predator trapping) for Tu Mai Taonga, run by the Ngāti Rehua Ngātiwai ki Aotea Trust. Ratanui enjoys this line of work constantly in nature walking tracks that his ancestors would likely have walked.
Ratanui joined the Pou Rāhui project with no real expectations other than maybe some part time work doing diving. But after the wānanga he expects to gain more te ao Māori knowledge. He has enjoyed all the wānanga with the many knowledgeable people that have taught the taiohi. His favourite experience would be making friends with the taiohi from the other iwi and has enjoyed getting to know them all.
